Newsletter …………………………………………………………February 2010
Goodbye, good luck and get well.
Jean Hooper, our oldest member, has now moved into a Retirement Hostel at Laurieton to be closer to her family. We wish Jean well and thank Pauline for visiting her weekly and keeping us up to date with Jean’s progress.
Margaret Reid has sold up and is moving to Wollongong at the end of February. We will miss you and thank you so much for all your work at CCBC.
Pam Leathley has not been well lately and we hope you will be better soon.
Our thoughts also go to Bill Geerligs.
Bill has been a stalwart of this Club and he and his late wife Hennie both worked so hard for our club for many, many years. Bill was President when the decision was made for the CCBC to purchase its own premises. His committee was responsible for obtaining, funding and renovating the building. A lesser known fact is that, although they tried getting grants from various sources to help fund the purchase none would help and the entire funds were raised by fund raising and debenture loans from members. They even had to buy their portion of the car park.
Our Club is one of the lucky ones, as very few Bridge Clubs in NSW (and probably Australia) actually own their own premises. We are thinking of you Bill.
The 2010 Bridge Calendar is kicking in. We have already had the BAMI Plate and the winners were Nancy Asquith and John Redfearn. Well done.
The first InterClub Teams Event was held at CCLCBC on 4th February. Complete CCBC Teams placed second were Angela and Kevin Dougall, Eunice de Vries and Helen Eaton. Fourth were Barbara Grant, Louis Koolen, Sylvia and Eddie Mallinson . Coming first was Virginia Dressler, Kerrie and Peter Johnman with Carolyn Molloy (BWBC) and third were Camilla Barlow, Kaylee Lemon, Judy Wulff with Marilyn Wigham (BWBC)
Well done everyone.
On the Coming Events Notice Board ----
BEP Plate is being held over three weeks, Thursday 11th 18th and 25th February. Your best two from three averages will be taken and although anyone can enter only those pairs with fewer than 100 MP’s combined can be declared the winners. If you can only make two weeks don’t worry, you can still compete.
Sunday 14th March is the Club Individual Championship. This is a great day. You need to pre-enter for this event. Your Director for the day is John Redfearn. You are asked to bring your own lunch but there are nibbles and drinks at the day’s end. The entry form states 28 players but we are happy to take more if enough are interested – however our cutoff is guided by the movement available and if there is an odd number of entries not all can be accommodated so please don’t leave it to the last minute. Cost is $6.
Coming Events
Thursday pm 18th February is the February Pairs.
Wednesday 3rd March is the Autumn Pairs.
Thursday am 11th, 18th and 25th March is the GNP’s. Please see Notice Board for the rules re this event. This is your chance to earn Gold Points.
Tuesday 23rd March is Seniors Week Pairs. This is a fun day and not a Red Point as last year. There will be more information closer to the date.
CCBC SUPER CONGRESS This is the biggest event of our Bridge Year. Fliers are freely available for you to check out this event. We have Restricted and Open Pairs and Teams Events and pre-entry is required. You can enter via the Notice Board and, yes, we already are collecting entries. It is a great weekend.

Kevin has started his 2010 Lesson Year and has some 25 people enrolled. Lessons, as you know, are on Mondays at 1:30 for the next eight weeks.
(The Monday Afternoon Session has now moved to Thursday afternoon at 1:30).
Those who complete ”Learn to Play Bridge” lessons will move onto Supervised Play which will commence on Monday 29th March.
I am just sneaking this in to see if you are still reading
There are things around the Club that need doing so I have set aside Sunday 21st Feb as Spring Cleanup. If you would like to volunteer to help out that would be great.
Name badges
Yes, many, many requests. I have been wearing a mockup name badge (no comments please) which has been widely accepted. It is flat gold with a black trim and says
